Our panel of distinguished tasters have the following comments:

Duncan Peak 2001 RESERVE Cabernet

Color is dark plum; aromas are dark cherry juice mixed with sage, slight sage scent mixed in. Medium body with very integrated tannins. Flavors are unusual in that they are a combination of things you find in old world wines and California Cabernet. Controlled alcohol, very subtle use of wood, slightly sage and oregano like flavors from a core of ripe cherry and plum. Finish is lingering and well developed. No unresolved tannins: the wine is showing well now and will develop nicely for a number of years.

Duncan Peak 2002 RESERVE Cabernet

The color is ripe wild blackberries. This wine has lots of forward berry aromas, more California in style than the 2001 Reserve Cabernet. Ripe and full bodied with spicy overtones. This wine is a fine accomplishment: as with the ’01 vintage the wood and alcohol are very integrated and do not crowd out the ample fruit that forms the core of this wine. An excellent wine that calls you to the table to marry this fine wine to a fine meal. The finish is silky and smooth for such a youthful Cabernet. The wine has excellent balance and will continue to improve for the next five to ten years.

Duncan Peak Vineyards 2002 Petite Sirah
Color is very ripened mulberry, dark and penetrating. Aromas are a mélange of sweet dark berries, cola, daffodils, which introduce flavors of dark berries, rosemary and oregano. The tannins are soft and resolved while at the same time giving sufficient life and structure to expect a long life in the bottle. The finish is resolved and holds the memory of everything that came before it. This wine in not a huge, tannic Petite Sirah, but balanced, approachable and enjoyable now.
